History of Longmont's ArtWalk

ArtWalk began in 1996 as a monthly gallery hop sponsored by several local arts organizations, galleries, businesses and the media in Longmont, Colorado. In 1997, the Scientific Cultural and Facilities District (SCFD) made it possible for ArtWalk to add music to its events.

When several of Longmont's art galleries closed, ArtWalk worked to keep the arts alive in downtown. The “New” ArtWalk approached businesses and asked them to partner with ArtWalk by hosting art and music, and transforming their business and stores into art galleries for ArtWalk's events.

In 2001 ArtWalk was selected as the “Arts Nova” award winner by the Community Foundation serving Boulder County for innovation in an arts organization. The Teen Outreach project was introduced in 2002. In 2003 ArtWalk was selected by Westword's Best of Denver as “the Best Introduction to Small Town Culture”.
